Top 5 in 2007
I just finished watching the latest episode of The Totally Rad Show, a weekly video podcast. If you haven’t checked them out, please do so now. For this end of year episode they named their top 5 favorite movies, games, and TV shows. This got me thinking hard about my top 5’s of 2007. Here I list my top picks in movies, TV, video games, books, songs and comics.
Movies
(in no particular order)
- Hot Fuzz
- High School Musical 2
- The Number 23
- Shoot ‘Em Up
- Planet Terror
For my first category I couldn’t determine a clear ranking. I went with the 5 movies that came to mind when I tried thinking of the movies I enjoyed the most this year.
TV
- Scrubs
- Psych
- 30 Rock
- Avatar: The Last Air Bender
- Pushing Daisies
- Hustle
- Heroes
- The Office
- Journeyman
- Dirty Sexy Money
I made this section go to 10 simply because there are so many more of my favorite TV shows and I wanted to give some love to all of them. I also wanted to put Buffy The Vampire Slayer on this list, but it ended in 2003. I had never watched Buffy before, but a few weeks ago I started at the beginning and have been watching them all in order. So far I am loving it.
Video Games
- Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords
- Orange Box
- Pokemon Diamond / Pearl
- Contra 4
- Guitar Hero 3
This has been an interesting year for gaming. I bought my first handheld gaming device: a nintendo DS. I absolutely love it, and it isn’t suprising that 3 of my top 5 games are for the DS. I don’t spend much time gaming on my PC anymore, with Orange Box the only new PC title I played this year. And technically the number 5 on my list, I barely play. Most of my enjoyment is from sitting around watching my two roommates rock out on Guitar Hero.
Books
- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – J.K. Rowling
- Eldest – Christopher Paolini
- Eragon – Christopher Paolini
- The Golden Compass – Philip Pullman
- Redwall – Brian Jacques
I only recently started reading the His Dark Materials trilogy, so I have no doubt that if I had finished more than just the first one, the others may also have been in my top 5. It should also be noted that my list consists of books I read in 2007, not books that were released in 2007 (except for Harry Potter).
Songs
- If Everyone Cared – Nickelback
- It’s Not Over – Daughtry
- Bet On It – High School Musical 2 Soundtrack
- What I’ve Done – Linkin Park
- Rockstar – Nickelback
Pretty simple decisions here. I just took the most played songs in my iTunes from 2007. Other top played songs were from the Moulin Rouge soundtrack, but they are from 2001 so I didn’t count them.
Comics & Web Comics
- Penny Arcade
- Ultimate Spiderman
- Player Vs Player
- Invincible
- The Ultimates 2
Maybe not fair to group them together, but I really only started reading comics this year. So I combined them with my 2 favorite web comics to create my top 5.
This has been my wrap-up of the top media of 2007. Did I forget anything? Disagree with my lists? Post in the comments or link to your own top lists.
Great lists Jeff! I actually agree with you on a ton of those. The music lists would be a little different. (But you can bet HM2 songs would be on it.) Also I am pretty excited to read the “His Dark Materials” series. I hear very good things.
